Myself and Kriss have both had this week off work and it's been good to spend time together just pottering about. We have cleared up the garage of lots of stuff we were just hanging on to and most of it has been taken to the re-cycling centre in town. Mainly paper and cardboard plus some old household items. We have both cleared out some old clothes and they will be taken to a charity shop tomorrow.
I've also managed to catch up on the church accounts so that they are ready for the Annual General Meeting on 1 November. As a church we are a registered charity. We have a responsibility to present an annual report, including accounts, to the Office of Scottish Registered Charities. This public body only came into being about two years ago as a result of concerns of mis-management in a very small number of registered charities in recent years. It's meant more paperwork etc but they do seem to be there to help and guide, and not just come over all heavy if you get something wrong.
Kriss is leading cell tonight and we are still looking at God's call on our lives.
Elgin came very close to a flood situation again yesterday. In the last 7 years, parts of Elgin have flooded twice and in the last year it has been close to a flood situation twice. But the local council has still not got it's act together! They have come up with some scheme which means walls through parts of the town which will require some homes to be demolished! The Lossie, which is the river through the town, has not been dredged or cleared for many a year. There are a number of disused weirs along the route of the river which used to be there for mills that are no longer there or are not in use anymore. It has been suggested that if the river was dredged and cleared, and they got rid of the weirs, then that might be a suitable solution to the problem. But of course that would mean that there would be no use for a flood prevention team employed, at great expense, by the local council. Mmmm, I wonder.
Everton are back in action, on Saturday, away at Tottenham Hotspur in London. Now Everton do not travel well, especially to London. And we do not win in London. I cannot remember the last time we won in London. So, I reckon that we will still be bottom of the league after the weekend and then the following weekend we are at home to Chelsea - the current Champions and league leaders with a 100% record so far this season! 8 wins from 8 games. So I reckon unless we get something from those two games then we could be looking for a new manager. Watch this space!
I've got to go and sort out some more church paperwork.
