I watched some of the TV coverage of the return home of the bodies of the 14 servicemen who died in the crash of the Nimrod aircraft in Afghanistan. There was one Army guy, a Royal Marine and 12 RAF aircrew. The Nimrod and its crew were based at RAF Kinloss which is just three miles away, in a straight line, from where we live. We see the Nimrods on a daily basis and RAF Kinloss, in many different ways, makes a large contribution to the local community.
It was surreal watching the coffins being taken off the C17 aircraft knowing that this was all happening just down the road.
Two of the aircrew were from my home city of Liverpool and with being ex-RAF myself it seemed somehow more personal to me. The whole incident has had quite an impact on the local community. And of course the squadron that they served on is having to come to terms with the whole incident.
I covet your prayers for this whole situation as various people have to deal with the fallout from this incident.
